Katy is becoming a caring little girl: she is always full of reassurances, kisses and love, epecially when we have evidence of any afflictions. She is always ready with “Mummy, you’ll be ok, hugs?” in response to any stubbed toes or freckles (”oh no Mummy, spot!”).
We went on our first plane ride the other day to Gareth’s cousin Sian’s wedding to Pete in Sydney. Katy loved the feeling of takeoff and any turbulence that we hit - “ooooh bumpy!”, and she provided a good plane spotting companion for Gareth while Marguerite and I checked out the airport shopping. She now refers to anyone wearing white (including Mummy in wedding photos) as Sian.
Katy turned two the other day. This entailed two parties at daycare - one to say goodbye in the babies room and one to welcome into the big kids.
We also had a three day series of present opening sessions at home to enable K to appreciate each item fully. Thanks to everyone who sent along goodies and good wishes.
Katy has now learned the true meaning of birthdays, being “Happy Birthday Cake? Happy Birthday Cake?” etc.
She is very good at singing happy birthday to you as well, but finds it disturbing if people get the lyrics wrong, as happened during Gareth’s birthday yesterday.
Today we had a lovely day with lots of running around outside! Woo yes the weather was lovely for the first time in ages. Katy got to commune with nature.
Well Winter is nearly over now. We have had a quiet time (mostly) - Gareth’s work and MBA have been taking up a lot of his time and Abby has joined the cool Samba band that we saw at the Omana Children’s day and played a few gigs with them. Abby and Gareth have also started playing the ukulele and banjo respectively, and are part of a Uketastic music group.
Katy has been developing lovely new quirks with lots of two-word sentences “More Milk!”, “Milk Please!”, “Mummy’s Water”. She has also learned to scowl and this morning she treated mummy and daddy to a high-chair re-enactment of a common household situation:
“No! Katy!” she shouted with a scowl.
“No Katy! No Katy!”
When she had our full attention she concluded the performance by chucking her bowl of fruit on the floor.
Yesterday Katy went to Grandma and Grandpa’s for an idyllic day of garden frolics and family duets. Mummy went out shooting with the girls and Daddy went to a palace in Latvia.
